Our desire is to change the energy model of commercial vessels by using renewable energies and low-carbon technologies.

With this conviction driving them, the four partners launched a low-carbon maritime business specialising in wind propulsion, namely Zéphyr & Borée.
The Zéphyr & Borée adventure started in 2015 with the meeting of the four founders: 3 merchant navy officers and a finance specialist.
Nils Joyeux and Victor Depoers were completing their studies at the École Nationale Supérieure Maritime (French Maritime Academy), Amaury Bolvin was responsible for the commercial development of brands of an agri-food group in Asia, Bernard Peignon, the senior of the four, was due to retire after a long career as a sailor and fleet director.
In 2015, Nils and Victor completed their final thesis on the economic and technical feasibility of using wind power as propulsion for merchant vessels.
Their work produced two conclusions: wind propulsion is viable but most of all, it is the simplest and most radical way to decarbonise the propulsion systems of large commercial vessels.
