Meltem: 1800 TEU container ship

With four pairs of CWS wing sails, the Meltem features a 3/4 forward bridge to offset the obstruction of visibility forward of the ship.
Its mechanical propulsion system features twin engine shafts that compensate for drift caused by the wing sails and adapt to load variations depending on wind conditions and the thrust generated by the eight sails.

To restrict the height of the centre of the sail, the maximum height of container bays is reduced in relation to a conventional ship with the same dimensions.
The maximum geometric capacity is therefore lower, but the load capacity of 14 homogeneous tonnes remains identical to that of a ship of the same dimensions but without sails.

The sails add an additional 20% to the cost of building the ship.
Nonetheless, the fuel savings generated by the wing sails offset this additional cost and means Meltem can offer a container slot price in line with current market prices.
